CLASSIFICATION OF SKIN

CLASSIFICATION OF SKIN TYPES                          - BY DR YASMEEN SHAIKH.

1. Normal Skin - Fine textured, healthy

looking, neither too oily nor too dry

and without any blemishes.

Very few people are lucky to

have such skin in the tropical countries.

If blessed with such a skin, maintenance

treatments to retain it are the necessity.

2. Dry Skin - Causes

    1. harsh and excessive use of soaps.

    2. exposure to sun.

    3. cold and windy weather.

    4. poor diet and nutrition.

    5. excessive steaming.

    6. illness and certain drugs.

    7. ageing process.

Dry Skin can be of two types :

        a) oil or sebum dry.

        b) moisture or water dry.

a) In case of oil dry skin the skin appears and feel thin, taut dry, wrinkled when you smile, and lacks elasticity. In advanced old ages dry skin starts wrinkling with folds in it.

b) On the other hand water dry skins

feel rough to the hand and flakes of

dry skin can be seen on the skin.

The client will usually say that no

matter how much she cleans,

her skin always looks and feels dirty.

In some cases, there may be some

amount of itching present.

Make up doesnnot adhere well.

There may be black heads and

blemishes present in this type whereas

oil dry skin does not usually

have that problem.

c) MATURE or ageing skin - Some people

call this type of skin a dehydrated skin.

Ageing process differs from person to

person as well as factors like hereditary,

age, sex, eating and living habits, health

and illness, use of alcohol and smoking,

as well as climatic conditions have a great influence. Neglect and lack of agelines

beforethe time they should really be seen.

It is water and oily dry.

1. excessive sebum secretion.

2. hot humid climate.

3. hormonal imbalance.

4. hot , oily and spicy foods.

5. certain nationalities have more oily skins so hereditary plays and important part.

6. excessive use of startches and carbohydrates in foods.

Appearance - Creepy, dry, wrinkled,loose,

looks lined and thin.Does not hold the

makeup well. Even a little make up

looks too much too powdery.

Appearance -

 1. open pores, looks like a orange peel.

 2. sallow dingy looking appearance.

 3. tendency to spots and acne.

 4. greasy T Zone specially on awakening.

 5. Make up and eye shadows start to crease.

Advantages- does not wrinkle early but when they do occur, they are deeper wrinkle.

Disadvantages- tends to get acne and blemishes, needs to be kept extra clean.

Combination Skin- Has patches of skin which are dry and others which are oily.

T Zone seems to be oily and shiny whereas the skin on the cheeks and sides of forehead is dry. This type of skin is the most commonly found. Although the types of skin can be found naturally in a lot of people many a times it is a situation which has been created by the client herself. e.g. dry skin is not associated with pimples but in practice a lot of people with acne complain of a dry skin condition.
